Rally Niagara's summer tournament extravaganza on Sunday, Jul 18th featured some intense game play at all skill levels. It was good to see old friends together again coming from as far away as Rochester and Ohio. See gallery of photos below. Great games were played and a summary of each level is as follows.
A Level featured an up and down finale with Zarni Htay & Jerry Wong holding off a fierce charge from Chris Low & Andy Liu. It was very interesting in the fact that the final went three games and each team had total momentum in each game with Zarni & Jerry pulling away in the third game to win easily. Scores in the finale were 21-11, 12-21, 21-9.
B level winners were Shahnoor Islam & Harun Rashid. They played extremely well in the bracket round winning in the semi-final 21-18, 21-19 over Alisa & Wendy and then putting the pedal to the metal with a win over Redwan & Dan in the final 21-17, 21-15.
C level champions Mihir Chauhan & Rahul held their own against our May champions Stuart Wilson & Andrew Wang. It wasn't an easy day, but as the games got tougher Mihir & Rahul seemed to have increased their intensity to counter their opponents game play. The final scores in favor of Mihir & Rahul over Stuart & Andrew were 21-9, 17-21, 21-17.
D level featured our only mixed doubles team to play in the open doubles tournament. Pururva Lakkad & Julie Connelly. Though they struggling in the round robin phase of the event, they overcame Gaurav & Mahmud in a very close semi-final 21-18, 14-21, 21-19 and then handily made work of Eric & Duc in the final bringing out their "A" game and winning 21-4, 21-10.
