"A" Division winners: Ryan Fong & Amruta Gajanan Bhat, Runners-Up: Zhou Zhang & Jiachun Guo
Rally Niagara hosted the Volatus Mixed Doubles Tournament at its ECC campus on Saturday, September 30th. Intense games were played withy Rally Niagara teams, the University of Buffalo teams, and the University of Rochester teams.
Intense game play started with the round robin. Zhou & Jiachun won the round robin phase with a 7-1 record and became the 1st seed in the elimination phase. After some intense 3 game matches, Ryan & Amruta and Zhou & Jiachun came together to produce another epic 3 game final at Rally. Ryan & Amruta overcame adversity and won the match 15-21, 21-17, 21-9 to win the "A" division winning trophies, shuttles, and cash.
Interestingly, this tournament also featured Rally Niagara's own - Yanping Xia. This was her final event before leaving the area permanently for southern California. Junzhe Li (her partner) and Yanping had a very exciting game during the round robin phase beating a tough UofR team, Na & Rubio 21-20. Yanping was a fixture at Rally and will be missed. We wish her well.
Our "C" division winners were Mike Hacker & Julie Connelly and as always playing competitively in all games versus tough opponents.
Stay tuned for the Rally Niagara Cup Badminton tournament coming up on Saturday, November 11th. Details to be released soon. It will be a big event featuring MS, WS, MD, WD, and XD events at all skill levels.
